The Center's new community calendar is a repository of not only events and programs offered by the LGBTQ organization, it is also open to the public to contribute like-minded progressive events and happenings.
“We think it’s a very positive development for our community,” Center CEO Michael Dimengo says.
The mobile-enabled calendar was launched April 1 at LGBTQ.Vegas and features events including community fundraisers, family activities, support groups and social events. Listings can be submitted by members of the public, as well as nonprofit organizations and community groups, as long as they are LGBTQ-friendly.
Cory Burgess, director of marketing for The Center, says the concept for the site came about because of a need by local LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS groups to better coordinate events so they could avoid scheduling events that conflict with each other.
More than 20 organizations have already added events to the calendar, Burgess says. A quick perusal shows listings for Narcotics Anonymous, a women’s summer dance series at the Hard Rock and SWITCH Trans* clothing swap.
Those who wish to submit an event to the calendar can do so by creating a free account. Submissions are reviewed within 24 hours to ensure they meet community guidelines. Private events are
not allowed.
Founded in 1992, The Center is one of the largest LGBTQ nonprofit organizations in Nevada and offers a variety of services, including health programs, support groups, educational workshops, a computer lab and an LGBTQ library. Call 702-733-9800 or go to TheCenterLV.org to learn more.
